Hurricane Dorian battered the Bahamas on Sunday and Monday, obliterating houses and wiping out power.

When it made landfall on Sunday afternoon, it was a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 180 mph. It is the strongest storm to ever hit the Bahamas.

Dorian is moving slowly toward the US mainland, and forecasts show a range of possible landfall sites. Evacuations have been ordered in parts of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

On Wednesday, the hurricane lashed the Virgin Islands, toppling trees and power lines and leading local authorities to declare a state of emergency.
